Update your Summer Wardrobe with these Essential Pieces

Have you ever taken a look at your wardrobe, only to realise that the clothes you’ve collected and the outfits you’ve go used to wearing aren’t in season anymore? Don’t worry–it happens to everyone. Unless you’ve got a massive wardrobe that has plenty of space for all seasons, you’ll likely need to pack away your cold weather clothing and replace it with beautiful summer garments ready for the hot weather.

This is also a great time to scour your wardrobe and add a few new pieces to help freshen up your outfits. Whether you are getting outdated clothes replaced or trying out a new style, it’s important to give your summer wardrobe a well deserved lift by adding some great key summer pieces to it that are sure to update your style.

Essential Summer Wardrobe Pieces

A maxi dress

The classic maxi dress is an absolute summer staple. Maxi dresses are super flattering, cool, comfortable and can wear them pretty much everywhere – on holiday, the office, date night… It is also an extremely versatile piece that can be dressed up or down in an instant. Wear them with boots, trainers, sandals, denim jackets, leather jackets… the list goes on.

A large straw hat

A large straw hat is a super stylish summer accessory and it will help you protect your face and hair from the sun. Now that I’m truly aware and worried about wrinkles and age spots hats are a must have for me and straw hats are my style of choice because they are timeless, practical and chic.

A pair of sandals

It’s no secret I love a  great pair of shoes and with summer just around the corner I’m beyond excited to start wearing sandals. They are comfortable and versatile but above keep your feet cool because, let’s be honest, no one wants to walk around with sweaty soles in the hot weather.

A button-up shirt

A classic button-up shirt can be worn with anything in summer. It’s versatile, timeless, inexpensive and adds a touch of class to your outfits.

A large tote bag

Tote bags are amazing all-year around, but they have one advantage in the summer; the prints. They’re colourful, have lots of fun patterns and are perfect to carry that extra bottle of water (I can’t be the only one that always carried a bottle of water in my bag right?) and add interest to any outfit.

A pair of denim shorts

Perfect for showing off your tanned legs. Denim shorts are amazing when paired with a pretty top and trainers for a casual look. However, they also work with pretty shoes/sandals and a button-up shirt if you want a more sophisticated look.

A set of comfortable lingerie

Summer lingerie is designed to be breathable and chic. Check out a lingerie outlet store and you’ll find some fantastic lingerie pieces that will add a splash of colour and style to your summer wardrobe this year.

A pair of sunglasses

What better way is there to avoid the sun than to wear sunglasses? Pick up a stylish pair of shades to match your outfit and you’ll look a whole lot more fashionable. This year little cat eye sunglasses are all the rage but I also love classic raybans.

A striped shirt

Stripes are a fun and vibrant print for summer, and there’s nothing more iconic than a blue and white striped shirt. It goes with everything from jeans to skirts and you can mix and match colours to your liking.

I hope I have managed to give you some ideas on how to freshen up your summer wardrobe with a few key pieces and without breaking the bank.

Love, P

  1. Love it. Can’t wait for the summer season as we are entering winter here in South Africa. But these essentials that you listed are great – I can’t go anywhere without my sunglasses in summer #Stayclassymam

  2. I am making use of my maxi dresses through my pregnancy. They’re nice and comfortable, fit around the growing bump and thanks to bump are coming off the floor so I don’t fall! Bonus! #Stayclassymama

  3. I need to apply all of this to my wardrobe! I don’t have any maxi dresses because I’m short and they drag on the ground so need to find a petite one. I have had the same sunglasses for years because they are prescription ones. Definitely time to update my style with some classics. #stayclassymama

  4. I’m in the market for a pair of denim jeans! I have some short denim skirts which are always one of my summer staples but they’re just not practical for crawling round the floor after little ones! Haha.
