This is a family recipe that I picked up from my lovely mother in law – who not only is Lebanese but also an excellent cook (see what I did there? I’m hoping this will get me some brownie points).
I can guarantee you that once you try this hummus recipe you will never again eat shop bought hummus. This recipe is super simple to make and most importantly absolutely delicious!
Homemade Hummus Recipe
- 2 x 400g cans of chickpeas
- juice of 2 lemons
- 1 tbs tahini (sesame paste)
- salt to taste
- tsp ground cumin (plus a bit extra to dust)
- extra virgin olive oil
Rinse the chickpeas well under cold water and put them in the food processor. All the tahini, lemon juice, salt and ground cumin. Turn on the food processor.
If the mixture is too thick, add a little bit of water to loosen it up. When the mixture is fully mixed and smooth, tip it into a serving bowl. Dust with a bit of ground cumin and paprika and drizzle with olive oil before serving.
Variation: You can add 2 garlic cloves crushed to this recipe if you wish. I normally leave it out because my children prefer it without.
